Kendrapara, Odisha: An 85-year-old cancer patient and his septuagenarian wife had recovered from the coronavirus.
Officials from the Kendrapara district of Odisha confirmed the news on Sunday.
Surendra Pati, who is suffering from throat cancer, and Sabitri, his 78-year-old wife, have recovered from the coronavirus.
They were also discharged from a medical facility.
Kendrapara district Collector Samarth Verma confirmed the news and said the couple inspires many Indians to beat the disease.
The man was admitted at the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre in Cuttack on June 8 for chemotherapy, while his spouse was attending to him at the hospital.
On June 29, 2020, both of them tested positive for the coronavirus.
Kendrapara Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) MH Beig said the couple was then brought to a designated coronavirus hospital in Cuttack.
10 days after treatment, the couple was discharged.
The couple was then housed in a coronavirus care center in Bagada gram panchayat area in Kendrapara block as a precautionary measure.
The couple was discharged from the facility on Friday.
ADMO MH Beig added:
The couple, particularly Surendra Pati, fought the battle against coronavirus with grit and determination despite his advancing age. Cancer patients have low immunity levels.
