The Common Admission Test is the biggest entrance test for students to get the seat in MBA. Finally, IIM Lucknow released the date of the exam on 26th November 2017. CAT will be conducted in 2 sessions this year for which the application process will start from August 9th and the application will be accepted until 20th September. CAT 2017 Notification Important Dates:

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer-based test held in India. This test scores a person on the basis of quantitative ability, data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) started this exam and use the test for selecting students for their business administration programs. The test is conducted every year by one of the IIM’s based on a policy of rotation. In August 2011, it was announced that Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) would also use the CAT scores, instead of the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET), to select students for their management programs from the 2012-14 year.

There are about 4000 seats offered to the candidates who secure good merit in CAT to get admission into IIMS. CAT scores are being accepted by 20 IIMS and more than 100 B-Schools around the country.

Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification:

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (It may also be referred to as Persons With Disability (PWD) categories], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions.

Application fee:

The fee for General category candidates is Rs 1,800 and for SC, ST and PWD categories, it is Rs 900.

Selection Process:

“The duration of the test will be 180 minutes,” said Prof Neeraj Dwivedi, convener, CAT 2017.

“Also, we will allow the use of the basic onscreen calculator for computation. Candidates will be allotted exactly 60 minutes for answering questions in each section and they cannot switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section,” he said.

This year the test is going to be conducted in 3 sections in which Section I will have the verbal ability and Reading comprehension; Section II will have data Interpretation and logical reasoning and finally, the Section III will have the quantitative ability said Prof Dwivedi.

“We will try our best to assign candidates to their first preferred city. In case it is not possible, they will be assigned a city following their given order of preference. In the rare case that a candidate is not allotted any of the preferred cities, he/she will be allotted to an alternate city,” Prof Dwivedi added.

  • Pay the application fee.

In 2016 about 2,32,434 candidates have attended the examination in the Test centers mentioned. CAT will stop receiving the application from 20th September and from then candidates should have to wait for the admit cards.
