The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad, IITH) is a public university located in Medak district, Telangana, India. IIT Hyderabad offers Undergraduate B.Tech degrees in eight disciplines of Engineering, M.Tech degrees in eight disciplines of Engineering, postgraduate and Research degrees across all disciplines in Engineering, Sciences and Liberal Arts. This year it has released the notification for the admission process for Ph.D. programs. Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Admissions 2016:
Educational Qualification:
Bio-Medical Engineering:
- First class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in Master’s Degree in Science/Engineering / Technology
- M.Tech./M.E./M.S.(Engineering/Technology) degree with first class or equivalent in the
respective or allied areas - Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s degree in Sciences in an allied area and possessing a valid GATE score may also apply. For those who have not yet completed their qualifying examination, marks up to the 7th semester/ 3rd year (for B.Tech students) and 3rd semester/ 1st year for PG students will be considered
- Candidates with CSIR-NET-JRF / UGC-NET-JRF award for Research fellowship or
equivalent or GATE Qualification are encouraged to apply
Chemistry:
The candidates should have a Master degree in Science. The candidates must have a valid UGC score card.
Civil Engineering:
First class Bachelor’s degree in Civil /Aerospace / Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University/ Institute* AND
First class Master’s* degree in Structural (or, allied) Engineering from a recognized University / Institute
Computer Science And Engineering:
General/OBC(creamy layer) Category:
- B.Tech/B.E/B.S/M.Sc/MCA: 70% or 7.5 CGPA
- M.Tech/M.E/M.S. in CSE/IT/ECE/EE: 70% or 7.5 CGPA
Reservation (SC, ST, OBC(non-creamy layer)) Category
- B.Tech/B.E/B.S/M.Sc/MCA: 65% or 7.0 CGPA
- M.Tech/M.E./M.S. in CSE/IT/ECE/EE: 60% or 6.5 CGPA
The candidates can have a B.Tech/B.E/B.S./M.Sc degree in any branch.
Candidates with M.Tech/M.E./M.S./M.Sc-Engg degree in CSE/IT/ECE/EE from IITs/IISc, the cutoffs are relaxed as - 7 CGPA or 65% for General/OBC(creamy layer)
- 6.5 CGPA or 60% for Reserved(SC, ST, OBC(non-creamy layer))
Direct-Ph.D – Candidates with a B.Tech/B.E/B.S./M.Sc/MCA (without having M.Tech/M.E/M.S. degree in in CSE/IT/ECE/EE) can also apply, provided
- General/OBC(creamy layer): 70% or 7.5 with a valid CSE/ECE/EE GATE score > 600
- Reservation (SC, ST, OBC(non-creamy layer)): 65% or 7.0 with a valid CSE/ECE/EE GATE score of > 500
- For IIT/IISc graduates, the CGPA criterion is relaxed to 7.0 for General/OBC (creamy layer) and 6.5 for
- Reserved category (SC, ST, OBC(non-creamy layer))They need not require any GATE score.
- For NIT/IIIT graduates, the CGPA criterion is relaxed to 7.0 for General/OBC (creamy layer) and 6.5 for
- Reserved category (SC, ST, OBC(non-creamy layer)). They must have a valid CSE/ECE/EE GATE score.
Part-time Ph.D
Same criteria as above except that the candidates do not require any GATE scores
Application fee:
General (Men): An application fee of Rs 300 needs to be paid by the candidates for the registration process.
SC/ST/PwD (Men): The candidates can make the payment of Rs 150. Women are required to pay Rs 150 for the registration procedure.
Selection procedure:
The candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in the written test and interview.
