Baahubali 2’s Success Makes Way For Rs 500-Crore ‘Ramayana’ Film

After Rs 1000-Cr Mahabharata, now Ramayana to be made into a movie with a Rs 500 Crore budget. It looks like the exceptional box office success of Baahubali – The Conclusion has opened doors for several other brilliant ideas and films that were kept hidden for ages as it was believed only Commercial films are box office super hits.

Baahubali franchise has triggered a race amongst filmmakers to adapt our mythological epics for the big screen. Not long ago, a UAE-based Indian filmmaker, B.R. Shetty, had announced an investment of Rs.1000 crore in two-part Mahabharata, a movie which was long ago shelved because the producers backed out to bankroll such an expensive project.

Now, on one hand, the nation is taking pride in singing the success of Baahubali – The Conclusion, the first ever Indian film to cross Rs. 1000 crore mark at the box office which has seemingly inspired other brilliant ideas to be adapted to the cinema screens.

According to the film reports, three film producers, Allu Aravind, Madhu Mantena and Namit Malhotra are coming together to adapt Ramayana for the big screen. The film will be made on an estimated budget of Rs 500 crore. The three producers have been working on the script for almost a year now, have joined hands to make the epic Rs. 500 crore feature film.

Ramayana is an epic saga that narrates the story of divine Prince Rama and how he rescued his wife Sita from the demon King Ravana. It’s going to be a three-part series. The movie will be trilingual. The movie will be released in Hindi, Telugu as well as Tamil. The film is also said to be made in 3D format.

“It’s a huge responsibility but the Ramayana needs to be told on the big screen in the most magnificent way possible. We are committed to delivering a spectacular extravaganza,” Allu Aravind told. Producer Namit Malhotra, whose company Prime Focus has handled the visual effects for films such as Star Wars, Transformers, and The Martian, said that he is looking forward to raising the bar of Indian cinema with the new Ramayana film.

“Three generations of my family have been in the movies and we have a world-leading capability in bringing such stories to life. There cannot be a better time and opportunity to tell the greatest Indian story to the world in a way that preserves its respect and vision. The partnership with Allu sir and Madhu has aligned me with the best partners who share the same vision and passion for making this a cinematic experience all Indians can be proud of,” said Malhotra.

There is no word out on the possible star cast or when the project will go on floors or release in theaters. While several people feared earlier that there can be huge losses, and that two-part films never succeed at the box office, Baahubali has changed the way people now look at Indian cinema.
