In the beginning, it was believed that the Goods & Services Tax (GST) imposed by Narendra Modi government will be a landmark decision in the field of economics. From the day-one itself, it has been in news, though the inception was fair, it went from average to worse with time.
People are literally banging their heads against the wall just trying to understand the policy. Amidst all this, a Tamil movie ‘Mersal’ directed by Atlee Kumar has hit the center of controversy as the lead character in the movie is seen criticizing the government for imposing GST on medical services.
The character in the movie also slammed for the poor conditions of government hospitals and the character was portrayed by actor Joseph Vijay. The flick was released on 18 October 2017.
There are few scenes in the movie that sparked controversy, in all those, he is seen mocking at the tax reform.
The scene irked the Tamil Nadu BJP government and they tried to put a ban to it. As soon as the news surfaced on networking sites, people were eager to watch it. In no time, their plan backfired and a 1.20-minute video floating around on Twitter went viral with more than 3,900 likes and 5,200 retweets within a short period of time.
The company that produced the movie Mersal said on Saturday that it was ready to remove the “misleading portions” of the movie if required.
