Bollywood Heartthrob Rishi Kapoor Dies At 67 After Long Battle With Cancer
Rishi Kapoor, a veteran actor in the Bollywood industry, has passed away earlier today, his death was confirmed by Amitabh Bachchan, a close friend of the family.
Kapoor was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Wednesday morning.
The cause of his death remains unknown.
Since 2018, Rishi Kapoor was battling against cancer and had to stay in the United States of America for 1 year as part of his treatment.
Randhir Kapoor, the brother of Rishi, told the media that Rishi was admitted to the hospital due to health problems.
A statement was released by the family of Kapoor, which confirmed the death of the actor.
The statement reads:
Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8.45 am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him. He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way.
Kapoor returned to India in September 2019 after his treatment in the US.
Here are what actors had to say:
It seems like we’re in the midst of a nightmare…just heard the depressing news of #RishiKapoor ji passing away, it’s heartbreaking. He was a legend, a great co-star and a good friend of the family. My thoughts and prayers with his family 🙏🏻
