South Indian film industry has recently started building a firm market in the Northern parts of India. The successful journies of Baahubali and its sequel are the concrete proof of it. Starting from the senior actors like Kamal Haasan, Rajini Kanth, and Ajit, actor Vikram is nowhere less deserving to join the list, with the fist full of some quality films he did in his long career, the formula of success and failure has simply faded away.
Despite the recent box office bombs like ‘I’ and the rest, Vikram is often considered as one of the most versatile actors in Indian film Industry, one can easily acknowledge his dedication reflecting in the big screen. Now, after a long time, Vikram is once again gearing up for one of India’s biggest ventures assumedly titled as ‘Mahavir Karna’. As the title reads, the movie is based on the life story of Mahabharata’s epic character.
Starting with the caption “A sun rises as the sun sets”, Vikram announced his historic period film Mahavir Karna with RS Vimal, who made his debut in Malayalam film industry in 2015 with the critically acclaimed biographical romantic-drama Ennu Ninte Moideen.
RS Vimal had plans to make a film based on Karna, the main protagonist of Hindu epic Mahabharata and announced that Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran would play the lead.
The director also announced that the budget of the film would be around Rs 300 crore but later in the year, the film’s producer Venu walked out. “When the film was announced, I thought could pull it off in Rs 60 crore but the final estimate was much higher and that is why I was unable to fund Karnan”, said Venu in an interview.
Hence again after a lot of discussions, RS Vimal came to a conclusion that the Rs 300 crore budget can be recovered only by making Karnan as a pan-Indian film. “When Vimal approached Vikram to play Karna, he readily agreed. The film will be produced by the United Film Kingdom, a production house based in New York”, said a source close to the director.
The movie will be predominantly shot in Hindi, Mahavir Karna will also be dubbed in other regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. Vimal is now struggling to rope in leading actors from various Indian languages to make sure that audiences across the country find an emotional connection and top technicians will also be working for this project which is assumed to be released in 2019.
