People are going crazy after watching Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film Padmaavat and actors Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, and Deepika Padukone have done 100 percent justice to the characters in the film. Shahid Kapoor was seen in the role of Rajput king Maharwal Ratan Singh, Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji in the film.
Maharawal Ratan Singh is a character that is determined, fierce, and stands tall in the film. The actor said that he has taken a lot of efforts to get into the skin of the character. He also said that his journey of working in the film was very satisfying.
Shahid Kapoor has never shied away from taking risks, be it opting for intense roles or doing multi-starrer projects, and the actor says what defines his success story are the “smart choices” he made over the years. There are many multi-starrer movies in which Shahid Kapoor worked such as Udra Punjab and Rangoon, etc.
Shahid said when filmmakers come up with films with various characters which are not uni-dimensional “only a stupid actor will say no” to them. There is a perception in the film industry that two male stars find it difficult to work together owing to their big egos. Shahid was asked about feeling insecure, he said he would not have done the film if he was insecure in the first place.
“10 years down the line, when I have a library of films, having my films worth sharing with my family, my children, Padmaavat will be there. I am the hero of a Bhansali film, the numbers are going nuts, all is good. Rest is history. One line here, one article there, someone’s making an opinion, someone’s biting into your insecurity is not going to draw you back,” he said.
Padmaavat is Shahid’s first collaboration with Bhansali. When asked about working experience with the director, he said, “There are very few films, written today, which are worthy of two big actors. When someone has the ability to write the content of some quality, then actors will do it. How many Padmaavats are being made? Even Udta Punjab had a spectacular script and it came from nowhere and suddenly it had a huge cast. Of course, it took one year to cast the film. Diljit Dosanjh is a very big star in Punjab.”
“Who says that an actor can’t do a two-hero film? You are asking the wrong person because I did it. Actors on Padmaavat did it. I think smart choices make a great career,” he added. Earlier, the flamboyant actor said who would not want to play Alauddin Khilji’s role in a Bhansali’s movie. “If I had got a chance, I would have played it better than Ranveer Singh.”
After the movie got released, Ranveer bagged all the attention followed by Deepika, and it is Shahid who was deserted both in terms of shooting and post-release moments. There are several speculations that there are disputes between Ranveer and Shahid and the same has continued till the end of shooting because of which they even promoted the movie individually.
