On Tuesday, Actor-Producer Mohan Babu, was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment by a local court for the 2010 cheque bounce case.
The 23rd Special Magistrate Court has also asked Mr. Mohan to pay the fine of Rs. 41.75 Lakhs.
The case was filed by YVS Chowdry, a Director in the Telugu movie industry.
K Satya Saibaba, the advocate of Mr. Chowdry said that Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures, the movie production company of Mohan Babu was also asked to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000.
YVS Chowdry filed the complaint after he only received Rs. 1.10 crores which was supposed to be Rs. 1.60 crores as a remuneration that was offered by the movie company for directing “Saleem” a Telugu movie that starred Ileana DCruz and Manchu Vishnu.
Saleem was released in 2009.
Mohan Babu had to pay Rs. 40.50 Lakhs to YVS Chowdry, but due to “insufficient funds” the check got bounced.
The court has sentenced Mohan Babu to 1 year imprisonment and has directed him to pay the fine.
A plea was also filed seeking suspension of the order, the court did allow the plea and suspended its order for 1 month to allow the petitioner to appeal in a higher court.
Last month, Actor-Producer Mohan Babu joined the YRS Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh.
