Hyderabad is going to feature a 125 Foot tall statue of Dr. B R Ambedkar, who is the architect of Indian Constitution. The statue is to be built beside the Hussain Sagar lake and State Secretariat. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the statue on the occasion of 125th Birth Centenary of Ambedkar.
“The consultant will be given one month to prepare the DPR that will include estimates and plan for manufacture and installation of the statue along with a museum, auditorium and recreation activities. The statue will be set up in NTR Garden,” said I Ganapathi ReddyRoads and Buildings engineer-in-chief.
The Chief Minister has declared that the statue will be built for the one who is worshiped by scheduled castes among other sections of the society for his unique role in introducing the reservation system for the people who are being oppressed in education and employment.
Chief Minister k Chandrasekhar Rao has constituted a committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari along with some other senior officials from the state government on this project. Tenders are called by the government for the construction of 125ft Ambedkar Statue.
“We want to develop Amaravati as a tourist attraction for Buddhists from across the globe. BR Ambedkar’s proposed statue and the memorial park would further add glory to the capital city. We are planning to organize an Ambedkar Ideology Run, Ambedkar Sports Meet and other programs for the entire year. We will translate all the works of Ambedkar into the Telugu language,” quoted by Chandra Babu Naidu the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh last year.
According to the reports, 20-acres of land had been allotted for the statue and the proposed memorial, while nearly Rs 100 crore was allocated by the state for the statue’s construction.
