36-Year-Old Mentally Challenged Woman Kidnapped And Gang-Raped In Kolkata

A Taxi driver in Kolkata has been arrested for being involved in the abduction and rape of a shelter home inmate that is mentally challenged.

According to reports, the taxi driver was arrested from Narendrapur in South 24 Parganas District during a raid that took place on the evening of Saturday night.

According to the 36-year-old victim, who is a resident of a shelter house for the mentally challenged in the Panchasyar area of the city, she went out for a stroll on the evening of November 11, 2019, when a group of men forced her to get inside their car.

She was raped by the men.

The woman was thrashed before being pushed out of the vehicle at the Sonarpur area.

The locals saw the woman lying unconscious on the road and helped her get to her relative’s place in Gariahat.

A senior police officer said, “The accused taxi driver confessed to the crime following a prolonged interrogation. We are trying to ascertain if there was anyone else with him that night. His taxi has also been seized.”

According to the officer, there is no evidence that suggested she was gang-raped.

The Kolkata police said the woman is sexually active, but there is no sign that indicates she was gang-raped.

The woman reportedly has psychological problems.

Authorities also said that there is no evidence that indicated she was kidnapped.

Authorities have spoken with the victim about the rape case.

Leena Gangopadhyay, the chairperson of the West Bengal Commission of Women, said a report is being prepared for the case.

2 days after the incident, the mother of the victim died at the shelter home. Initial reports indicate she died out of a cardiac arrest, but an official autopsy report is being awaited.

No protection was given for the mentally challenged woman.
