6 police officers in Rajasthan suspended for being involved in Tractor Driver death case
Six police officers were suspended on June 4, 2019, for being involved in beating a tractor driver to death in Tonk, Rajasthan, on May 28, 2019.
The suspended police officers are:
- Manish Charan, the Uniara Police Station in-charge
- Rajesh, a head police constable
- Bhagwan Gurjar, a police constable
- Sanwara Jat, a police constable
- Ramavtar, a police constable
- Laksmichand, a police constable
The names of the suspended police officers were shared to the public by DSP Chunuram Jat.
Bhajanlal, a 30-year-old driver, was transporting gravel illegally, which led to a police chase near the Laxmipura area, which comes under the Nagar Fort Police Station.
On Wednesday, 2 legislators of Rajasthan started protests and said that the 30-year-old driver was killed by the police officers.
The police say that the death of Bhajanlal was a case of accidental death.
Harish Meena, a Congress Leader in Deoli-Uniara constituency of Tonk, started a protest in Nagar Fort and demanded the arrest of the police officers, the leader was then joined by Gopi Chand Meena, a BJP Jahazpur lawmaker.
The two lawmakers are demanding a government job for the family of Bhajanlal, Rs. 25 lakhs as compensation, a murder case against the 6 police officers, suspend the 6 police officers, and a probe led by the CID.
When the police did not do what they were demanding, the two lawmakers went on a hunger strike.
RC Dhenwal, the collector in Tonk, announced that the family of Bhajanlal will get a compensation of Rs. 13 lakhs.
The collector also added that a CID led probe will be carried out in the case.
The protests were called off on June 3, 2019, after the state government promised that they will launch a probe for the incident and suspend the police officers.
But on June 4, 2019, the protests started again after administration allegedly changed the members of the medical board that will be conducting the autopsy of Bhajanlal.
