9 Passengers Electrocuted To Death And 22 Injured After Bus Hit Electricity Line In Odisha

A massive bus fire in Berhampur, Odisha, left 9 passengers dead and 22 injured after it hit a power transmission line in the Golanthara area of the Ganjam district on Sunday.

The 22 injured passengers were rushed to a hospital in the area for medical services.

Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, expressed his condolences and announced that the family of the deceased will be receiving Rs. 2lakh each.

The injured people will be getting free medical health services.

According to NDTV, the 22 injured personnel were brought to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

5 of the 22 injured were shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The accident happened near the Mandarajpur area in Odisha.

Investigations revealed that the bus was headed towards Chikarada and was coming from Jangalpadu.

The bus had a total of 40 passengers when the accident happened.

The passengers of the bus were on their way to attend a marriage ceremony.

According to Jayant Kumar Mohapatra, the Sub Divisional Police Officer of the Berhampur Sadar, the bus caught fire it hit an 11 KV power transmission line.

State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera has assured that a thorough investigation will be done to find out how the accident happened.

Sukant Sethi, the Chief Fire Officer, said the blaze has been extinguished and all the passengers of the bus were rescued after the power supply of the transmission line was disconnected from the mainline.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the luggage carrier of the bus hit the transmission line along the road when the driver tried to give way to a 2-wheeler on the narrow road.

An official investigation has been launched for the incident.

The police did not reveal the severity of the injuries the remaining 22 passengers sustained.
