A couple from Bhopal, Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the ATS (Anti-Terror Squad) of the state for allegedly having links with a Maoist group.
The ATS arrested Manish Srivastava and Anita Srivastava, also known as Varsha, from a rented hous in a village near the Machalishahar City of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Manish and Anita have been brought to a local judicial magistrate first class court in Bhopal, the court ruled that the couple will be on a transit remand till July 12.
The couple also raised “Inqalab Zindabad” after being sent to transit remand.
During an interview with the press, Varsha, the wife of Manish, said, “Ask those who have arrested us on why we have been arrested.”
She added, “We don’t have links with any extremist outfit and were neither doing anything anti-national.”
The couple has been living at the Vikas Kunj Colony in Bhopal for 5 years.
The couple was arrested from the rented house they were living in.
The Bhopal Police said that a case can also be filed against house owners, who are renting their homes to people, for not making proper tenant verification.
Manish allegedly told his neighbors that he was running an NGO and his wife is a teacher at a school in the city.
Their neighbors said that Varsha was usually seen inside the house, but Manish only came to their house for a couple of days.
Manish and Varsha are currently facing charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, for abetting war against the country, forgery, cheating, fraud, criminal conspiracy.
Reports suggest that the couple will be brought to Lucknow for a detailed questioning by the Anti-Terror Authorities.
