A science teacher in Assam and his family were arrested by the local authorities for trying to sacrifice a 3-year-old girl inside their house in Udalguri, Assam on July 6, 2019.
The family was allegedly performing a ritual inside their home in Kulsipara, Udalguri.
The police identified the science teacher as Jadab Saharia, who was following the commands of Ramesh Saharia, a self-proclaimed godman.
According to the residents of the area, Ramesh had been conducting “tantric rituals” inside the house of Jadab and was supposed to sacrifice a three-year-old girl.
Locals saw the family members strip their clothes off while they were chanting mantras.
The neighbors and locals saw smoke coming out from their house, and when they saw what they were doing, they decided to intervene and report the incident to the police.
Local news agencies of Assam report that Ramesh attacked the villagers with a machete and an axe when they tried to intervene.
The local police, military forces, and the fire department was brought in and had to launch a 5-hour long rescue operation for the 3-year-old girl.
The parents and the grandparents of the 3-year-old girl were also part of the “tantric rituals”.
Ramesh and his aides set a motorcycle, a car, a refrigerator, and a TV throughout the operation.
Throughout the operation, the police fired shots and Jadab sustained bullet injuries in his legs.
Two journalists and Jadab were brought to a hospital after sustaining injuries.
The police have launched an investigation for the case to arrest all the involved people in the crime and to find out why they were performing the said ritual.
