A young lady wouldn’t wed a man for chewing gutkha (tobacco) in Murarpatti town in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia region, leaving the man of the hour without a friend in the world and her family members stunned throughout the end of the week.

As indicated by police, the husband, a resident of Dalan Chapara, had come to Lalganj town with his ‘baraat’ and was given a grand reception. Be when he was to step inside the mandap for wedding customs, the young lady spotted him chewing tobacco and refuse to get married to him.

Family members of the girl, a student of Bachelor of Arts at a neighbourhood college, were shocked by her choice. Friends and family members of both the bride and groom held an extended meeting throughout the night yet failed to settle the dispute.

Family members of the groom went to the Dokati police headquarters and lodged a complained. The young lady undeterred refused to change her decision.

Police official Vijay Singh said the bride to be said she would not wed a ‘gutkha addict.’

“In spite of the fact that her family members and relatives of the husband made attempts to persuade her for the marriage, she wouldn’t change her decision,” town head Dhayashankar Pathak told HT.
