Coronavirus: India To Jail Residents That Are Caught Taking Morning Walks Amidst Lockdown

To stop the spread of the coronavirus, the government of India has announced that they will be banning morning walks.

In New Delhi, the police have announced that they will be sending out police officers in parks all across the capital to take action against people that are violating the lockdown.

Shalini Singh, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Western Range), said, “There is Section 144 everywhere in the national capital. If you need to come out it has to be only for essential services. You cannot move around everywhere.”

Anyone that is caught taking morning walks in the capital of the nation can be jailed under the 188 section of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).

The person can be facing 6 months in prison time and can pay Rs. 1000 for disobeying the rules, endangering life, health, and safety of other people.

According to official details, the Delhi Police have arrested 153 people that were caught violating the curfew.

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the entire country will be going into lockdown.

PM Modi asked his residents politely that everyone should stay inside so the virus couldn’t spread properly in the country.

As of writing this article, the coronavirus has infected 859,431 people in the entire world and has caused the deaths of 42,335 people.

In India alone, 1590 people have been infected by the virus.

The total death toll in the country is currently at 45.
