Cyclone Bulbul Kills 20 People And Brings Heavy Rains Into West Bengal And Odisha

Cyclone Bulbul has claimed the lives of 20 people in Odisha and West Bengal, the cyclone has also left thousands of residents homeless in the region.

Flight operations resumed at the Kolkata Airport on November 10, 2019, the Cyclone hit the South 24 Parganas District on the evening of November 9, 2019.

10 people were killed in West Bengal, 2 died in Odisha, and 8 people reportedly died in Bangladesh.

Reports suggest that the agricultural sector was affected by the cyclone.

Hundreds or even thousands of trees were seen uprooted by strong winds that were brought in by the cyclone.

According to the weather department of India, Cyclone Bulbul brought in 100 kilometers per hour winds in the South 24 Parganas District.

More than 20 mm of rainfall was also recorded in the state.

During the incident, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, visited the control room and spent a number of hours with authorities to make sure everything would be stable in the region.

Authorities moved nearly 200 people to a shelter home in Sagar Pilot station of the Kolkata Port trust.

The affected villagers were served food in the shelter home by rescue staff.

Talking about the current speed of Cyclone Bulbul, GC Das, an official from Alipore Meteorological Department, said, “Cyclonic storm Bulbul now lies over coastal areas of Bangladesh, away from Bengal. In the next 12 hours, this tropical cyclone will become depressed and lose intensity. There is only a wind warning now.”

The Alipore Meteorological has issued a warning for the fishermen in the region and is advising them not to venture into the sea for the next few days.
