Surgeons from India had to remove 1.6 kilograms of golden metal jewelry, money, trinkets, and a watch from the stomach of a woman.

The 22-year-old patient suffered abdominal pain and had been sick after every meal for almost 1 week before she was rushed to the hospital.

X-Ray tests and sonography revealed a number of metal objects inside her stomach.

After the discovery, surgeons at the Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital had to perform emergency surgery to remove all the metal objects.

The doctors removed nose rings, earrings, chains, bangles, anklets, and trinkets from the stomach of the woman.

The surgeons also removed 90 coins and a wristwatch from the stomach of the 22-year-old.

Dr. Siddhartha Biswas, the head of the surgery department, led the operation.

Dr. Biswas said the woman ingested gold, brass, and copper items.

The woman that consumed the metal is reportedly undergoing psychiatric treatment.

The family of the woman said she might have taken the items from the jewelry shop of her brother.

The family said, “We noticed that the ornaments were disappearing. But whenever we questioned her, she started crying and revealed nothing.”

The mother of the 22-year-old woman added, “Despite keeping an eye on her, she somehow managed to swallow all these objects. She was not well for the past two months. Before admitting her at the Rampurhat Government Hospital, we had taken her to various private doctors and she was on medication without any result.”

The staff of the hospital said that the 22-year-old woman was discharged after she maintained a stable condition.

The woman was from Margram, West Bengal.
