“Don’t Use Social Media For 1 Year”: India High-Court Sets Questionable Bail Condition For Man Booked For Posting Against PM Modi

Posting derogatory posts against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders in India can get you in serious legal trouble, and getting out of the jail can make you do some things that you might have not imagined in your life.

Earlier this month, the Madras High-Court asked a resident of Tamil Nadu to stay away from Social Media for 1 year as a bail condition after he made a post against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook.

Jabin Charles, a resident of Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, was charged under Section 505 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 B of the Information Technology Act.

Charles reportedly said some bad things about Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, on Social Media.

The Madras High-Court said, “The petitioner had posted a highly derogatory post pertaining to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on Facebook.”

The incident has sparked outrage amongst social media users, with many saying “where is the freedom in India”.
