The EC (Election Commission) has handed a 48-hour ban from campaigning to BJP leader Mahadev Sarkar, which is starting today after the commission found him guilty of violating the model of code conduct after giving out personal remarks against Mahua Moitra, an MLA and a TMC Candidate from the Krishnanagar Parliamentary Constituency.
BJP Leader Mahadev Sarkar gave out comments about the personal life of MLA Moitra while he was in a public meeting in Krishnanagar on 22 April.
MLA Moitra also lodged a complaint against Sarkar, he was with the chief electoral officer of West Bengal, she alleged that BJP Leader Mahadev Sarkar made sexually colored remarks against her which were offensive and inappropriate.
The Election Commission investigated the incident it found Mahadev guilty.
The Election Commission ordered notice on Friday, it stated that the model code provision stops candidates and parties from criticizing each other by their private life.
The Election Commission also pointed out that all parties should give respect to women and must refrain from those things that could do harm to the dignity and honor of women.
The Commission added that they are strongly condemning the statements that were made by Mahadev and are severely reprimanding him for the misconduct.
The Supreme Court asked the EC to look into the plea that was filed by Moitra against Mahadev.
Mahadev Sarkar will serve his ban starting from April 26 4 pm, he is prohibited to go in any public rallies, shows, processions, and interviews.
