Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu: A 47-year-old man was mauled to death by a massive elephant over a man and animal area conflict.
According to reports, the incident happened near Narasipuram, which is located in the outskirts of the city on Friday morning of last week.
The man was identified as N Karthi and he is a paitner by profession.
The deceased was a resident of the Selvapuram area of the city.
The body of the man was found 3 kilometers away from the reserve forest.
A local and their friends spotted the body and alerted the forest officials right away.
The forest officials aid that a lone tusker was chased away by the night patrol team near the forest from a village in the area.
It was believed that the man was killed by the elephant before it managed to get into the village.
The man was an alcoholic by nature and was known to visit a temple in the area.
According to the investigating officers, they suspect that the elephant attacked the man when he was on his way to the temple.
They added:
It is suspected that the tusker attacked him while he was on his way to the temple. The priest has confirmed that Karthi hadn’t visited the temple on Thursday.
The body of the man was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College and hospital for postmortem.
As an immediate relief, the family of the man will be getting Rs 50,000.
Rs. 4 lakh will also be issued to the family.
