Emergency Landing: Air India Flight AI 973 Lands At The Air Force Base In Gujarat After Passenger Suffers Heart Attack
The Air India Flight AI 973 flight from New Delhi to Muscat had to do an emergency landing at the Gujarat Air Base after a 33-year-old passenger suffered a heart attack. The incident happened on Sunday evening.
The 33-year-old passenger was rushed to the Jamnagar Civil Hospital, officials added that the passenger was brought in the hospital with the assistance of an on-duty Air Force doctor.
Puneet Chadha, the PRO Defence of Gujarat, tweeted about the incident, he tweeted, “AI 973 Delhi Muscat flight diverted to Jamnagar Air Force Base at 2230 with an Indian passenger aged 33 suffering cardiac arrests in flight. IAF responded promptly. Diversion to civil airfield would have taken more time. Patient shifted to the hospital accompanied by IAF doc.”
Punit added that the 33-year-old patient was transferred to the Guru Govind Singh hospital afterward.
Usually, commercial airliners are not allowed to land on any Indian Air Force Base, and when Mr. Chadha was asked about it, he said that flight diversion to an international or domestic airport would have taken more time.
