A young Dalit woman in Bihar was shot in her neck by unidentified people inside her house 2 days after filing a First Information Report against 4 men who tried to rape her.
The woman, whose identity was not shared with the public, was shot inside her house in Rohtas district in Bihar.
According to reports, the woman was shot on the evening of Tuesday (December 17, 2019).
The incident took place under the jurisdictions of the Rajpur Police Station where a police party was camping since Sunday to prevent escalation of tensions that have been running high since the rape was attempted on the woman.
The police arrested the 4 main accused on Sunday (December 15, 2019).
The police identified the 3 rapists as Zafar Khan, Farookh Khan, Sharbook Khan.
Raj Kumar, the Sub Divisional Police Officer of Sasaram, released a statement about the incident.
Officer Kumar said, “As per the family members of the woman who is in her early 20s the attackers were four in number and they requested for an interview with the woman claiming to be journalists. When she arrived, one of them whipped out a firearm and opened fire after which all of them fled.”
The bullet reportedly pierced through the side of the woman’s neck.
The woman, who is in her early 20s, was rushed to the local PHC by a police party.
The police rushed to her house after hearing a gunshot sound in the area.
The woman also underwent emergency surgery and was later referred to a hospital in the district headquarters.
Satyaveer Singh, Superintendent of Police, Rohtas, said the woman is in a stable condition and is recovering from the surgery.
