New Delhi, India: A woman from France was arrested by the authorities in India for posing naked and making a video of her on a holy bridge.
Reports suggest the incident happened on a holy bridge in Rishikesh, a city in India.
The 27-year-old woman is currently facing 3 years in prison for the incident if found guilty.
It is reported that the woman, who was identified as Marie-Helene, shared a nude video of herself on the Lakshman Jhula, a footbridge over the Ganges River.
The bridge is a known tourist spot for backpackers and people that travel to India each year to learn Yoga or practice the ancient living style.
R.K. Saklani, head of the police station where the woman was taken after she was arrested, said:
Maybe in France these things are not considered objectionable. But Rishikesh is a holy place and the Lakshman Jhula is the place where (Hindu gods) Ram, his brother Lakshman and wife Sita crossed the Ganges.
The woman said that she had been living in Rishikesh since March this year.
Officer Saklani said that the woman sells bead necklaces on the internet.
As a defense of her shoot, Helene said that she was trying to promote her business.
Apart from the video that was shared on the internet, the French woman took illicit images inside a hotel room.
After the content was shared on the internet, the police were informed about it.
The woman is currently on bail and the case could take months to get completed.
The smartphone of the woman has been seized as part of the investigation, said the authorities.
