Good Samaritan Travels Over 150 Kilometers To Deliver Hepatitis-B Medicine To Family Who Couldn’t Buy Because Of Shortage

Kolkata, India:  A good Samaritan traveled over 150 kilometers just to deliver hepatitis-b medicine to a family living in a remote village in West-Bengal after they failed to find any due to shortages during the coronavirus lockdown.

Saumitra Maur, a relative and neighbor of Purnima Maur, the hepatitis-b patient, contacted a ham radio club after failing to buy the medicines of Purnima in the locality.

Purnima Maur and her family are residents of the residents of Mangrul village at Chandrakona in West Midnapore district.

Maur only had medicine for a few days with her, and with no medicine available due to the coronavirus lockdown, she and her family became anxious.

Saumitra Maur, a pharmacy student, explained how she managed to find the medicine after losing hope.

She said, “I had learnt of West Bengal Radio Club from a friend and contacted it to see if they could help after all other recourse failed.”

The doctor of Maur had prescribed her with “Tenofovir Disproxil Fumarate” for one year, however, the stocks of the medicine were low due to the lockdown.

Due to the lockdown measures of India, local chemist shops of Maur said they were not getting the medicine due to the lockdown.

Not only that, but traveling is banned in India right now, so she became anxious.

Luckily, Saumitra Maur, the aunt of the woman, said that the West Bengal Radio Club assured that they will be getting the medicine.

Ambarish Nag Biswas, the founder secretary of the West Bengal Radio Club, released a statement about their kind act.

Ambarish said:

“We were informed of the requirement of the particular medicine for a critical patient suffering from Hepatitis-B on Monday and after an extensive search, found that it was available with Sonarpur Liver Foundation in South 24 Parganas district.”

The family received the medicine on the evening of Tuesday, all thanks to the kind acts of the West Bengal Radio Club.

Souparna Sen, a member of the West Bengal Radio Club, collected the medicine from the Liver Foundation and drover over 150 kilometers to the remote village so she could deliver the medicine.

Saumitra said that Sen delivered 1 month worth of medicine.

Such a class act!
