Rajiv Gupta, a 56-year-old doctor in Haryana, was shot dead by three masked men who were riding a motorcycle in Karnal.
The Haryana police have confirmed the death of Dr. Gupta, who owned a hospital in the city.
Officials said that he was shot by the three masked men when he was on his way to a market in Karnal.
Local news agencies report that Gupta passed away at a hospital in the city.
After the incident happened, the Congress party in the state blamed the BJP-Led government and said that they have failed to provide security to its residents.
Randeep Singh Surjewala, a Senior Congress Leader, blamed the incident on the BJP Government.
In a tweet, Surjewala said, “Criminals are ruling the roost in Karnal and law and order situation has collapsed.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the men stopped the bike in front of the SUV that Dr. Gupta was riding in and fired shots at him.
The police said that 2 bullets hit Dr. Gupta directly.
The shooting happened when Dr. Gupta was on his way to the Chaura Bazaar in Karnal, Haryana with his driver.
Manoj Yadava, the Director General of Police in Haryana, said that they have formed 8 teams that will investigate and hunt the three masked men.
DGP Yadava added that they have detained a number of people who they think are involved in the shooting of Dr. Gupta.
The police arrested a former employee of the hospital of Dr. Gupta. He was fired from his job at the hospital.
The police arrested Pawan, Raman, and Shiv Kumar from the border of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh
During an interview with the press, DGP Yadava said, “Investigations are on and we have got some important leads which are being worked out. All possible angles are being looked into. We are pursuing the leads and are hopeful of success,”
DGP Yadava added, “First we have to find out who are the criminals. Our teams are working on it and we are trying our best.”
