Illegally Manufactured Hand Sanitizers Worth $33,368 Seized In Mumbai

The Food and Drugs Administration personnel raided a hand sanitizer manufacturing unit in suburban Nahur, Mumbai, and seized substandard sanitizers that are worth Rs. 25 lakh, which is equivalent to $33,368.

According to the Maharashtra Police, the hand sanitizers were illegally made and were being exported without any valid documents and permissions from the government.

An official from the Maharashtra Police said officials received information about the unit, where hand sanitizers were being manufactured without a proper license from the FDA.

Officials from the FDA raided another facility, where illegal hand sanitizers were being manufactured.

The second spot was using floor cleaning chemicals for the hand sanitizers.

Authorities seized around 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizers and raw material during the raid.

The news comes amidst the coronavirus outbreak, which has infected 246,592 people and has caused the deaths of 10,050 people.

In India alone, 206 people have been infected by the virus.
