India: Groom Dies And 80 Guests Infected With Coronavirus After Ignoring Lockdown Rules
A groom from India had died and 80 guests of his wedding were left infected with the coronavirus after he and his family ignored coronavirus lockdown measures to get wed.
The man, whose identity was not shared with the public, died 2 days after getting married.
The incident happened in Bihar, India.
According to local reports, the man had a high fever before the ceremony, however, the family members made the man take paracetamol to get through the occasion.
However, his condition worsened and he passed away.
The death of the groom was not linked with the coronavirus as his body was cremated before the authorities were alerted.
However, the 80 guests that came to the event have tested positive.
Around 300 guests of the marriage have been tested with the disease, only 80 of them tested positive.
Local news agencies said that the groom was keen to postpone the traditional Hindu Tilak ceremony, but family members forced him to complete the rituals.
The marriage happened on June 15, 2020.
By June 17, 2020, he was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
His body got cremated before authorities were alerted of the possible covid-19 spread.
A local businessman said that the father of the groom was a teacher, so school employees were invited alongside many friends and relatives.
Dr. Abha Kumari, who is in-charge of sub-divisional hospital, said that the family members of the groom said that their son died from a heart attack.
Kumari added:
People who had participated in the wedding or were connected with the function in any way started arriving at the hospital to give their swab samples for tests.
