India Set To Buy 2 Advanced Phalcon AWACS Worth $1 Billion Amidst Tensions With China

The government of India is currently in the final stages of approving the acquisition of 2 Advanced Air Surveillance Phalcon Aircrafts that are worth around $1 billion USD.

The Phalcon airborne warning and control systems (AWACS) for the Indian Air Force will be purchased from Israel, said a report by NDTV.

The latest news comes amidst the hot tensions between China and India after the fierce faceoff that happened earlier this year in Easter Ladakh.

The IAF (Indian Air Force) currently has 3 Phalcon AWACS.

2 more will be bought to significantly boost the air defense of the country.

As of now, a proposal will be presented in front of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

The AWACS is mounted on a Russian-origin Illyushin-76 transport aircraft.

Phalcon AWACS are capable of tracking enemy aircraft, hostile missiles, and movement of troops across the border without having to cross territorial limits.

The IAF also has its own defense system.

The Indian Air Force has two indigenously developed airborne early Warning and control (AEW&C) system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

This is not the first time India has made such big moves when it comes to boosting the defense capabilities of its military.

In 2018, India signed a $5 billion deal with Russia in order to purchase 5 units of the S-400 air defense missile systems.
