Indian Airplane Declares Mid-Air Emergency After 7-Year-Old Anemic Girl Suffers Heart Attack

An airplane in India declared a mid-air emergency after a 7-year-old girl suffered a heart attack and passed away.

Ayushi Punvasi Prajapati, who is from Siddharth Nagar, Chaffa, which is located in UP, was travelling with her father when the incident happened.

It was reported that 7-year-old girl was onboard the GoAir flight G8307 when she suffered the heart attack.

The plane had to land at the Nagpur Airport on January 19, 2021, so the girl could get emergency treatment by the staff of the Kingsway Hospital.

She was referred to the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), however, she was declared dead upon arrival.

The girl collapsed mid-flight, said a report by Times of India.

Medical officers currently believe that the 7-year-old girl passed away due to cardiac arrest.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the girl was anemic.

The father did not share the medical history of the girl with the staff of the airport before the plane went off.

The family was taking the flight so the girl could get treatment in Mumbai, India.

The investigation officers of the incident released a statement about the incident, where they said:

“As soon as the journey started, she complained of breathing difficulty and an emergency landing was done,” officials were quoted as saying. The father was not disclosing even after she suffered cardiac arrest. The crew members searched their bags and found blood reports of the girl stating she had .5gms of haemoglobin. Covid test was done and found negative. At 6pm the body was handed over to the father, who took it by road to their native place, about 200km ahead of Lucknow. She was anemic. The father had not disclosed this, else he would not have been allowed to board the flight. Patients below 8 to 10 gms of haemoglobin are not permitted air journeys. Ayushi’s records show she had just 2.5 gms. They were going for her treatment to Mumbai.” She had some underlying diseases. But it may not be found out through post mortem. The viscera has been preserved. Sudden death can be attributed to cardiac arrest at the moment. The death is natural. Entire medical history will have to be studied in case the family submits it.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Ayushi, may her soul rest in peace.
