Indian-Ohio Truck Driver Arrested In Connecticut For Murdering Wife And Three Relatives

Gurpreet Singh, an Ohio truck driver has been arrested by the Connecticut police for murdering his wife and three other relatives earlier this year.

The 37-year-old truck driver was being held in New Haven County and had a pending extradition to Ohio to face 4 aggravated murder charges.

West Chester Township Police Chief Joel Herzog said Singh did not explain why he was in Connecticut.

The Branford Police Department released a statement on Facebook about the arrest of Singh, the department said, “On 07-02-19 at 2 pm, Branford Police arrested Gurpreet Singh, age 37, of West Chester, Ohio in connection with the murders of four family members in West Chester, Ohio in April 2019. “

The post added, “Singh is being held by Branford Police as a Fugitive from justice and will be arraigned in G.A. 23 on 07-03-19. Late this morning, West Chester, Ohio Police notified Branford Police that Singh was staying at a residence in Branford. Singh was located by Officers leaving the residence and was apprehended in the parking lot of Walmart.”

The post concluded, “The victims were identified as Hakikat Singh Panag, 59, his wife Paramjit Kaur, 62, their daughter Shalinder Kaur, 39, and his wife’s sister, Amarjit Kaur, 58. Shalinder Kaur was Gurpreet’s wife.”

On April 28, 2019, Gurpreet Singh called 911 and said that he found his wife and 3 relatives “on the ground and bleeding” inside the apartment where he lived in.

Singh was married to Shalinderjit Kaur and the couple had three children together.

Members of the Sikh community said that the 4 victims were often seen at the local Sikh Temple.

The three children of Singh and Kaur were with other relatives when the murder happened.
