Indian Police Officer Dragged By Biker Who Tried To Avoid A Checkpoint During Lockdown

Mumbai, India: A 40-year-old police officer with the Mumbai police was injured after a biker that was trying to evade a checkpoint ended up dragging him.

The incident happened in Wadibunder in South Mumbai on April 9, 2020, when the police were applying lockdown measures.

42-year-old Khajabi Shaikh Naim, the driver, ended up dragging Vijendra Dhurat, the 40-year-old Assistant Police Inspector when he tried to stop his vehicle for inspection.

The police were screening vehicles at the entrance of the Eastern Freeway when the incident happened.

The police tried to stop Naim as he looked suspicious.

Instead of stopping, Naim sped up and dragged the police officer over 50 meters.

The police officer was rushed to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The Mumbai Police said Officer Dhurat is out of danger.

The police arrested 42-year-old Khajabi Shaikh Naim the under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

The incident comes amidst the lockdown measures that were announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the virus from spreading at a very fast rate.
