Indian Veterinary Student Feeds Hungry Stray Dogs During Coronavirus Lockdown
In March 2020, the entire country of India, which is home to over 1.3 billion people, went into lockdown with hopes of containing the fast-spreading novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
With everyone inside their houses, stray animals such as dogs and cats were left alone wandering in the streets with no access to food.
Luckily, good people are still showing that there is hope in this hopeless world.
A veterinary student from New Delhi is showing that small acts can mean a lot to those that are in rough times today.
Vibha Tomar, a Delhi-based veterinary student, is currently feeding hungry stray dogs in the capital of the country amidst the coronavirus lockdown.
During an interview with ANI, a local news agency, Tomar talked about her kind act.
Tomar said:
“I love animals since my childhood as I am a veterinary student. So it is my responsibility to help them. Since coronavirus started spreading, people started staying at their homes but the animals are still suffering the most. Earlier, people used to come and give them something to eat… but now they (stray animals) are having a very hard time. So, I decided to give them food and I am doing my bit.”
Stray animals in India heavily rely on leftovers from restaurants, street vendors, and people that have extra food in their houses. However, due to the lockdown measures in the country, no one is feeding them.
