After Rahul Gandhi claimed that there was an English word in the Oxford Dictionary that targeted the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Modilie, which means constantly modifying the truth. The Oxford Dictionary’s Twitter page did not hesitate to insert itself in the convo.

Replying to the tweet, the Oxford Dictionary said that the image is “fake” and the word “does not exist”.

We can confirm that the image showing the entry ‘Modilie’ is fake and does not exist in any of our Oxford Dictionaries.

The tweeted picture of Rahul did not show the name of the dictionary, but the screengrab was similar to the website of Oxford.

The definition in the screenshot said, “To constantly Modify the truth.”

The other definition in the screenshot said that Modilie means “to lie incessantly and habitually”, and the third one was “to lie without respite”.

In the screenshot, it stated that “Modilie” is a “mass noun”. A mass noun means, a noun denoting something that cannot be counted (e.g. a substance or quality), in English usually a noun which lacks a plural in ordinary usage and is not used with the indefinite article.
