Over 2 Million People In India Plant 20 Million Trees While Practicing Social Distancing And Wearing Face Masks

In Uttar Pradesh, India, 2 million people gathered together to plant 20 million trees amidst this coronavirus pandemic.

They did the amazing act while practicing social distancing and wearing face masks to minimize the chances of spreading the coronavirus.

The virus has spread fast throughout the country, but the government of UP had something else in mind.

The most populous state in India wanted to conduct a mass tree-planting campaign along the banks of the river Ganges.

They did it as part of the state’s pledge to shade a third of the nation under tree cover by 2030.

Volunteers, nonprofit employees, government workers, and even lawmakers were seen wearing face masks and practicing social distancing as trees were being planted.

UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, released a statement about the incident and said:

We are committed to increase the forest cover of Uttar Pradesh to over 15% of the total land area in next five years. In today’s campaign, over 20 million trees will be planted at the banks of the Ganges river, which will help in keeping this mighty river clean.

A lot of countries all over the world are trying to cope up with the target 2030 as the deadline for sustainability related goal.

The date is conciding with the United Nations 18 Sustainable Development Goals that are being done to encourage largest problems in the world.

Some of the problems include:

  1. Poverty
  2. Hunger
  3. Pollution
  4. Access To Clean Water
  5. Education Access

The survival of every tree that is planted during mass-planting operations is not guaranteed.
