Patient Dies After Hospital Staff Fail To Find Keys Of Locked ICU
Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: A 55-year-old woman, who was in an ICU ward at a medical college, died after the staff of the hospital failed to find the key t the locked ward.
The incident reportedly happened at the RD Gardi Medical College in Ujjain District of Madhya Pradesh.
The woman, who has been identified as Laxmibai Chauhan, had complained of breathlessness and high blood pressure.
On the evening of Thursday, she was admitted to the district hospital, who told her to go to the Madhav Nagar Hospital.
After her blood was taken for coronavirus testing, the woman was referred to the RD Gardi Medical College.
Upon reaching there, the family realized that there was no one available in the ICU ward and it was locked.
The family of the woman, who was in panic mode, helped the staff in locating the key, but after failing to find it, they broke the lock.
Unfortunately, Chauhan was declared dead upon arrival.
The test report for the woman for COVID-19 is currently being awaited.
Dr. RP Parmar, a Civil Surgeon, and Dr. Mahesh Marmat, the in-charge of the Madhav Nagar Hospital, were removed from their posts for not providing a ventilator to Chauhan.
An official investigation is believed to be underway as another patient, whose identity was not shared with the public, died in the same way later that day.
Reacting to the incident, Ujjain Chief Medical Officer Anusuya Gawli said: “She was suffering from chronic illnesses like hypertension, diabetes. She was referred to the medical college. Our specialist took the samples for COVID-19 but her condition deteriorated and she died. We are conducting a probe into the matter.”
