On Friday afternoon, the Ahmedabad Police tweeted, “The vehicle had no number plate and valid documents. A vehicle detained and slapped a fine of Rs 9 lakh 80 thousand (9,80,000 INR).”
Reports suggest that the vehicle was stopped during a routine traffic stop after the police realized that the vehicle did not have any number of plates.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Tejas Patel, the driver also failed to show proper documents of the vehicle.
DCP Patel added, “Therefore, we detained the car and issued an RTO memo under the Motor Vehicles Act. This means that he has to deposit the penalty with the RTO and come to us with a receipt to get back the vehicle.”
The driver did not pay the fine on the spot.
DCP Patel said the vehicle will only be released after the owner pays the fine and shows them the receipt.
He explained, “We have come to know that the transport officials calculated all the pending dues, taxes, and penalty on the car and slapped a fine of Rs 9.8 lakh.”
The vehicle was seized by the Ahmedabad police on Sindhu Bhavan Road in Ahmedabad.
