It has been almost a week, and, Goods and Services Tax Bill has become the trending subject both in the country and the Internet. Some went criticizing the bill, some applauded the government for taking such a historic move, meanwhile, there’s another category of people who went trolling the bill for its complications.
Started with memes and trolls now it seems that people are done with that, netizens now started sharing their old and new bills on their Twitter handles, some thanked Modi for the admirable drop downs in few situations, on the other sides, people, not all understood the pricing, however, there are lot many who praised the Government.
Despite all these opinions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended up calling Goods and Services Tax (GST) a “Good and Simple Tax”, ironically, to common people there is nothing simple.
Many prominent people shared their bills on the Internet, out of all of them, Shobhaa De’s new GST Bill has stood as the standout for various reason, most importantly, the food she ate is quite different from the picture of the bill she posted, inclusion of coffee though she hasn’t mentioned it in the caption.
However, post her breakfast, she went sharing a picture of a receipt from Murugan Idli Shop in Nanganallur in Chennai writing “GST ke side effects. Unaffordable idlis”.
Check out her tweet here:

Meanwhile, someone also taught basic taxation formulae to Shobhaa De, explaining:
“The receipt shows that for a bill of Rs 75, the tax levied is Rs 13.5.
Others noted that the tax charged by restaurants under GST has actually come down from around 20.5% (including service tax and VAT) to a uniform 18%.”
Check out further tweets here:
VAT was 12.5-14.5%
Service Tax was 6%
Total was 18.5-20.5% Plus Service Charge.
Now GST is 18%. Got it Ms De?— Poroma (@PoromaMunshi) July 1, 2017
U used to service tax + vat earlier arnd 18.5 or 20 % or so . Now u paid 18 %.
