Suspected Meteorite Crashes Into Rice Field In Bihar, India
Madhubani, Bihar: A Football sized suspected “meteorite” crashed into a rice field in the district on July 24, 2019.
The farmers who were working near the farm were shocked an amazed after witnessing the unusual happening.
Pictures that were shared online showed farmers from the district holding the “meteorite”.
The suspected meteorite is around 15 kilograms.
The District Magistrate of Madhubani, Shirsat Kapil Ashok, said, “The farmers were working in the paddy field when this heavy rock fell from the sky with a very loud noise.”
Magistrate Ashok added, “We saw it has very strong magnetic properties, some shine and weighs around 15 kilograms (33 pounds).”
Researchers are currently analyzing the suspected meteorite.
3 years ago, a meteorite managed to kill a bus driver and injure three other people as it hit them directly.
Researchers in India agreed with the claims of the regional authorities, but NASA, one of the biggest space Agencies in the world, did not believe that the object that killed the driver was a meteorite.
In 2013, a meteorite that hit the Ural Mountains of Russia managed to create a shockwave that was strong enough to injure 1200 people and damaged more than thousands of houses in the area.
According to Wikipedia, meteorites are “a solid piece of debris from an object, such as a comet, asteroid, or meteoroid, that originates in outer space and survives its passage through the atmosphere to reach the surface of a planet or moon.”
Although it is really rare that a meteorite manages to hit the ground, as most that enter our atmosphere gets destroyed while it’s coming down, researches from India will need to analyze the suspected meteorite that was found in Bihar.
