Team India is playing Test cricket for so long time and it is on their home soil. The visitors New Zealand Cricket Team are confident of their form and were set ready to face India. In the on-going 1st Test at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, India has scored 318 in the first innings and New Zealand is batting well against the Indian bowlers.
New Zealand progressed steadily after losing the first wicket of Martin Guptill who scored 35. Both skipper Kane Williamson and Tom Latham were batting steadily and neutering Indian spinners. Everything went smoothly until the 37th over. He was heading to his fifty before the game brought him under the danger of getting out.
An interesting moment occurred in which KL Rahul and Tom Latham was involved in an umpiring confusion. Latham attempted a sweep shot off Jadeja bowling. KL Rahul at the short leg caught the ball which is said to be a not out. The ball hit the bat and scooped towards the short leg where Rahul fumbled a bit and however managed to grab the ball.
There was a huge appeal. On-field umpire Richard Kettle Borough chose to seek the help of the third umpire Anil Chaudhary. The replays indicated that the ball was clearly touching grill of Rahul’s helmet and as per the rule, if the ball touches any part of helmet then the decision will be given not out and something similar happened here as well.

Cricket Law No-32:
“As per the laws of the game, specifically Law 32, the rule states that a catch can be deemed fair only if the ball embraces the body of the catcher or gets lodged accidentally into his clothing or into the pads, as it could be the case in certain situations with a wicket-keeper.”
However, the third umpire decided it in the favour of Black Caps as not out. This decision disappointed the Indian dressing room. The Twitterati also participated in the debate and gave their opinion.

Bizarre survival by Tom Latham, the ball hits Rahul’s helmet strap, the ball becomes dead

Tom Latham survives. A good decision in the end though. #indvsnz

Interesting. Tom Latham sweeps onto his boot & into hands of short square leg. But has it hit Rahul on his grill? It has & not out! #INDvNZ

Well, I watched the KL Rahul catch’s replay. What’s wrong in that? It’s fine. Should’ve given out.#INDvNZ
