Two Bangladesh Trained Militants Surrendered In Tripura

Two militants had been surrendered in Police station on Wednesday. Reports say that the two are trained from Bangladesh and came in front of Director General of Police and surrendered themselves in Tripura. When the two militants were taken into custody, they were having Chinese made arms and weapons.

The two militants were identified as Sunil Mohan Tripura (35) and Jatanjoy Tripura (36). They have given the guns and other armed weapons like AK 47, live cartridges, Grenades and one magazine. As they said, fled from their base camp at Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in Bangladesh and entered Indian Territory through Khanthlang, a hill top hamlet near the India – Bangladesh border.

They also said that they were intending to surrender since long time and join the mainstream. Members of NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) have taken shelter and arms training in different hideouts and covert camps in various parts of Bangladesh.

Officials of Tripura and union home ministry held two rounds of talks recently with the NLFT after the rebel group expressed its willingness to hold peace talks with the government. But as most ATTF cadres have surrendered, the group is almost non-existent now.

During interrogation Sunil Mohan told police that he was a resident of Kukil Mani Para under Dhumacherra police station of Dhalai district and joined NLFT in the year 2000. Both outfits were banned in 1997 by the union home ministry, advocate secession of Tripura from India.
