A woman in India was raped by 3 men as she was quarantining in a school overnight during the coronavirus lockdown measures in the country.

The police in a city of Rajasthan, a district in India, reported that the rape happened last week when the victim, whose identity was not shared with the public, was staying in a school after being taken there by the local police.

According to local news agencies in India, the woman was walking back to her home but got lost so she went to the police station for help.

Because there was no quarantine center, the police officers sent her to a school, where she spent the night.

While the woman tried to stay there, 3 men came and raped her.

Parth Sharma, the Deputy Superintendent in the Sawai Madhopur district, said:

Three local men who raped the woman inside the school on April 23 have been arrested and sent to jail.

The woman, who is in her 40s, told the police that she had been sent to a local quarantine facility away from her village in order to get tested for the coronavirus.

Dept. Superintendent Sharma added:

We don’t know how long she was on her own for, and who she came into contact with, and her test results are not yet known.

A junior police officer has been suspended for negligence, confirmed Dept. Superintendent Sharma.
