Nitesh Tiwari’s directorial starring Bollywood’s Mr.Perfectionist Aamir Khan, Dangal has proved its worth at the International box office. The movie attained widespread critical acclaim being the biopic of Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat.
With the most unexpected box office collections in China, the movie has garnered enough space everywhere. It is well known that Aamir Khan has won the ‘Best Actor’ at Filmfare and it is expected that the same crew will win the best director and actor awards at IIFA. But, something different happened now, no trace of Dangal was seen at the award ceremony, not even seen as nominees.
One must recall the words said by CBFC director Pahlaj Nahlani: “Only those stars get an award who make it to the awards night.”
Post the ceremony, the concerned authorities of the IIFA has issued a statement clarifying the same, said the makers didn’t send an entry for the 18th International Indian Film Academy awards.
“Basically in IIFA forms are sent to various production houses, They fill up those forms and send it back to us. These forms are put out in the industry for voting and from there it becomes a nomination.”
Meanwhile, Wizcraft Internation Director Andrew Timmis added: “So Dangal had not sent their entry in. We would have loved Dangal to be a part of it. It’s the movie that has broken all box office records and we loved Aamir Khan and the two girls in it. But unfortunately, they didn’t send their entry in.”
On the other hand, it is well known that it is a known fact that Aamir Khan has boycotted all awards shows in India, including the National Awards for the last 16 years.
However, Udta Punjab, a 2016’s film, that received rave reviews from the critics has bagged the most number of awards including best actor and best actress for Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt respectively.
