Even after implementing Nirbhaya act, the number of rapes happening in the country hasn’t reduced. From little babies to old women, no one is safe in this country. It is shameful how politicians blame the girls for their dressing and some of them even went ahead to say that boys make mistakes.
But is our law so weak that it can’t even protect the integrity of the women? Recently one more rape incident shocked the whole nation and is causing a huge uproar. The incident took place in Dharmagarh in Kalahandi district.
The incident happened in Odisha where a girl was returning from Shani temple and three guys dragged her to a nearby village and forced her to consume alcohol. While the girl got intoxicated, one person has forced himself on her while the other two were filming it on their mobile phones.
They even threatened her to make the video viral if she didn’t continue to have a physical relationship with him or even if she reveals the incident to her family members.
The girl was terrified of the whole incident and didn’t reveal it to her family members but the guys released the video on social media. She later revealed the whole incident to her family and lodged a police complaint against the three members.
“I was returning from the Shani temple last Saturday. They took me to the forest, stripped and raped me after forcing me to drink alcohol. Later, they started blackmailing me, saying if I don’t maintain a physical relationship, they would make the video viral. I was afraid after the incident and could not reveal it to my family members. After finding that they have made the video viral, I decided to lodge a case and informed my family about the matter,” she added.
Talking about the incident, her mother said that,
“One Chitta has raped my daughter. If he marries her then it’s fine, or else he will be behind bars as we have already lodged an FIR.”
Most of the cases in the villages are being solved by marrying off the girl to the guy who raped her, to save the reputation of the family. But can the girl be happy with such marriage? Absolutely not! we don’t know when this kind of incidents will stop in our country but until then all we can say is to take care of your safety before stepping out.
