19-Year-Old Man Arrested For San Diego Synagogue Shooting That Killed 1 And Injured 3, Mayor Calls It As A Possible “Hate Crime”

The police have arrested a 19-year-old man after a shooting at San Diego Synagogue that left 1 person killed and 3 injured, the Mayor of the city called it as a “Hate Crime”.

The shooting happened at the Congregation Chabad in Poway, which is north of San Diego, the Mayor of Poway, Steve Vaus said that the shooting is a possible hate crime.

President of the United States, Donald Trump said, “At this moment it looks like a hate crime, but my deepest sympathies to all of those affected and we’ll get to the bottom of it.”

4 citizens were rushed to the Palomar Medical Center Poway from the shooting, one patient was a 60-year-old woman who passed away at the hospital, she has been identified as Lori Kaye.

Dr. Michael Katz said, “The other three victims are doing well with their injuries. A 57-year-old rabbi who was shot suffered what looked like defensive wounds to both of his index fingers. He will likely lose his right index finger”

The doctor added that a 34-year-old man and a girl attained shrapnel injuries. The age of the girl was not publicized, but officials said that she attained injuries in one of her legs and in her face.

She was transferred to a children’s hospital and is currently being monitored.

The mayor has considered the shooting as a hate crime, he said, “because of statements that were made when the shooter entered.”

Officials identified the shooter as 19-year-old John Earnest, a resident of San Diego. The authorities are currently investigating if Earnest is connected to arson at a mosque that is close to Escondido.

The mayor added, “someone with hate in their heart … towards our Jewish community and that just will not stand.” The congregation “took security very seriously.”

Earnest was armed with an AR-type assault weapon.

Officials add that an off-duty Border Patrol fired at earnest as he was fleeing away, but the agent did not hit him.

San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said that the 19-year-old shooter fled the scene and called 911 to report that he was involved in such incident and even told where he was at, a k-9 officer arrived at his location and arrested him.

The suspect has been interviewed by the FBI.

When the sheriff was asked to give a comment about the shooters motive, he did not give any.

But he said that authorities believed that the 19-year-old acted alone in the shooting.
