J. P. Nadda the Health Minister recently told that the death that is causing due to AIDS have declined by 55 per cent in India over past eight years. Also, the HIV infections came down by 66 per cent since 2000.
Nadda at a high-level meeting said that about 1,48,399 deaths are recorded in 2007 and figure came down to 67,600 in 2015. In between 2000 and 2015 the infection rate came down from 2.51 lakh to 86,000.
There proposed a fast-track implementation of AIDS control measures to epidemic across the world by 2030. Nadda said the proposal must adopt the target and collaboratively work and achieve it.
“Targeted interventions based on close collaboration and empowerment of communities and civil society with appropriate funding from the government has helped deliver key life-saving services to the affected population.
Seeking higher investment from international public health agencies to end the epidemic. The role of international assistance and cooperation cannot be underestimated. This is the time for developed countries to do more, not less, and enhance their commitments. We cannot afford to give the epidemic a chance to rebound,” Nadda said.
Cipla and Dr. Reddy1 which are the Indian firms supply 80% of generic drugs used worldwide for AIDS treatment. Because of the patent litigations they are facing some tough regulations in several countries.
