‘All-time high’ threat to PM Modi: Ministers, officers won’t be allowed to come near

According to the ministry of home affairs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s road shows which are the most important part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s successful election campaigns might be cut down because of an “all-time high” threat assessment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Besides cutting down Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s road shows, the ministry is now working on security guidelines and levels for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in such a way that not even ministers will be allowed to come too close to the Prime Minister unless they are cleared by the Special Protection Group (SPG).
Prime Minister’s security team aka The close protection team (CPT which was created to protect prime ministers and their families after Indira Gandhi’s assassination, has already been briefed about the threat assessment and the new rules to be followed in order to protect PM from the all-time high threat. Regarding this, the teams have been instructed to keep away even some ministers and senior officers to provide a high-level security to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Regarding all-time high threat to PM Modi, Pune police On June 7 had captured a “letter” that explains a plan regarding the assassination of PM Modi in “another Rajiv Gandhi-type incident”. “The police claimed the letter was recovered from the Delhi residence of one of the five people arrested for having alleged “links” with the banned CPI “, said one of our sources.
Besides the guidelines provided by the home ministry regarding PM Modi’s safety, even Special Protection Group (SPG) advised the Prime Minister to scale down on road shows.
Regarding this, a home ministry official said that“Roadshows are harder to manage, owing to high exposure. When PM Narendra Modi is on road shows in metropolitan cities the high rise buildings of those cities can pose security threats to the PM.

From September 2013 to the general elections held in May, PM Modi on an average has addressed 437 big rallies and has participated in a total of almost 5,827 public interfacing events and have traveled across 25 states, regarding the elections.
After the Pune police’s admission to the court regarding threat letter to PM Modi, The PM’s security structure was reviewed and Union home minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting on this all-time high threat issue with national security advisor Ajit Doval, home secretary Rajiv Gauba and intelligence bureau director Rajiv Jain.
