Amazon India Launches Bill Payments Platform Through Its Amazon Pay Utility

On Tuesday, Amazon India announced the launch of bill payments facility through its medium which will be powered by Amazon Pay platform. The facility will allow the users of Amazon.in to pay their all kind of bills like electricity, landline, gas, postpaid, broadband bills for more than 100 billers which includes BSES, BESCOM, Tata Power, BSNL, Reliance Jio, Airtel, ACT Fibernet, IGL, MGL, and Hathway. For this facility, the Amazon company has partnered with select billers, DTH operators, telecom to provide exclusive offers to its customers across recharges and bill payments.

In addition to that, all those customers who opt for Amazon Pay for paying bills will be provided a 10 percent cash back of up to Rs. 75 on electricity bills and another 10 percent cash back of up to Rs. 50 will be provided for those who pay bills for landline, broadband, and postpaid bills. In a separate way, Amazon India states that mobile prepaid recharges will be entitled to get Rs. 50 discounts on the condition that the minimum recharge is of Rs. 198 and another Rs. 75 discounts with a minimum recharge of Rs. 398 only for the first recharge done by the customer and up to Rs. 30 for next repeat recharge.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Shariq Plasticwala, Director, Payments, said “The launch of bill payments on Amazon reinforces Amazon’s commitment to Indian customers to provide them new categories and a wide selection of services. We shall continue to innovate on behalf of customers as we simplify the payments experience in India. We now have all the major categories across mobile recharges and bill payments available for customers.”

In the recent past, many other major digital wallet providers in the country had already introduced the facility of paying bills for electricity, gas, landline, postpaid etc on their platform. Such services providers include Paytm, Google Tez (Name changed to Google Pay), BHIM and Samsung Pay.

After the launch of demonetization move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there have been reports of payment being made through digital mode with an increase of usage. Moreover, there are many initiatives taken by the government to make India digitally advanced with the digital payments playing a crucial role in this regard. The launch of Jio by Reliance to has bolstered digital moves in India resulting in many kinds of services being offered through online mode.
