In a press release, the Ongole Police said that a 16-year-old girl was raped by 3 boys and 3 men for 5 straight days in Ongole, Andra Pradesh.
Officials have arrested the 3 boys and 3 men from different areas of the state.
Home Minister M Sucharita has assured that the government will take strict actions against the men and the boys.
According to Siddharth Kaushal, a senior police officer, the girl met one of the accused men on June 17, 2019, at the RTC Bus Station in Ongole. The two became friends and was asked to come with her. The accused then brought her to his room.
Officer Kaushal added that the accused and 5 of his friends raped the 16-year-old girl for 5 straight days.
The minor managed to escape from the men and went to a bus station near the room.
An on-duty security guard and a police inspector saw her and helped her out.
The minor is currently recovering in a government-run hospital, doctors said that her condition is stable.
A manhunt for the 3 boys and 3 men was launched by the police after the 16-year-old girl registered a complaint against them.
All of the accused were arrested from different areas of the state.
Officer Kaushal said that one of the accused was arrested by the police in SPS Nellore District when he was trying to board a train.
The DGP (Director General of Police) of Andhra Pradesh, Gautam Sawang, said that they will tighten up the security in the state so they could provide better safety and security for women and children.
A case against the accused men has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.
DGP Sawang has assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out and justice will be served.
